What was Kemi Badenoch worried about?
Come and see for yourself.
Our next film has a definite change of pace. Irish-language film “Kneecap” isn’t just a biopic; it’s a riotous, energetic explosion of Irish rap trio Kneecap’s rise, controversies, and unapologetic artistry. The film captures their raw talent and rebellious spirit, showcasing their music’s infectious energy and politically charged lyrics. Beyond the gigs and studio sessions, “Kneecap” delves into the band’s clashes with the establishment.
Kemi Badenoch, as Business Secretary in the last government, attempted to block the funding they had already been awarded by the Music Export Growth Scheme, as they were considered anti-British. Adding a layer of off screen political drama. It’s a must-see for music lovers and anyone interested in the intersection of art, politics, and free expression.
Winner of seven British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) 2024, including the top prize – Best British Independent Film.
NB: The court case was dismissed under the current government and they received their grant

Borderlines Film Festival
Each year we look forward to seeing what Borderlines Film Festival has to offer. Based around several cinemas including Hereford (The Courtyard) and Malvern there are always great films to watch. This year we are pleased to be supporting the film festival by sponsoring one of their film screenings – The Seed Of The Sacred Fig, on Sunday 9th March at 1.30pm. This film has been a hit with the critics and audiences alike. A political thriller/drama both on and off the screen. Winner of the Special Jury prize at Cannes 2024 and nominated in this years Oscars. We would have loved to screen this film during our normal film season, but unfortunately it is too long for one of our time slots.
We encourage you to see this and more films at Borderlines Film Festival
This seasons programme:
Non-members are welcome to all our film society screenings on a first come first served basis (£5 per person). We are limited to 20 non-members per screening but have rarely had to turn anyone away. Members are ensured a seat if they arrive and register at least 10 minutes before the screening time.
Our films are shown at the Melville Centre for the Arts in Abergavenny:
