In the nineteen fifties, a writer receives news that takes him on a melancholy train journey back home. As he travels through the night, memories resurface, forcing him to reflect on events that led to his mother’s confinement in an asylum some thirty years earlier. Filmed in monochrome in Bethesda, Llangollen and Blaenau Ffestiniog and inspired by scenes from the classic of Welsh literature, “Un Nos Ola Leuad”, this Welsh-language opera film is a genre-bending exploration of grief, memory, mental illness and the power of artistic creation. The hauntingly beautiful music score was composed by Gareth Glyn and performed by the orchestra of The Welsh National Opera. The librettists are Iwan Teifion Davies and Patrick Young.
