Four Mothers is a witty, disarming and tender story of an Irish son dealing with four very different female personalities. An adaptation of Gianni Di Gregorio’s Mid-August Lunch (2008), it follows Edward, an up-and-coming novelist, who is forced to balance press commitments with caring for his elderly mother. Edward faces pressure to go on a book tour in the United States when his three closest friends head off to Spain on an impromptu Pride holiday and leave their own ageing mothers in his care. Edward must then deal with juggling a burgeoning career with the care of four eccentric, combative and wildly different ladies over the course of one chaotic and unforgettable weekend. Winner of the 2024 BFI London Film Festival Audience Award for Best Feature, the film follows an unlikely family on an emotionally charged journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
