This film is based on the autobiographical novel of François Begaudeau. It follows a year in the life of François Marin who teaches at a racially mixed school in inner city Paris. Marin starts the year with a determination and passion to give his class of fourteen and fifteen year-olds a good education. Facing a difficult class with a diversity of ethnicities, cultures and opinions, he adopts a frank and honest style to his lessons. However, despite his good intentions, his principles and enthusiasm are stretched when the students begin to challenge his methods. In French with English subtitles.
