In the village of Dolpo, high in the Himalayas, Tinle, the elderly village chief, blames Karma for the death of his son. He refuses to give Karma his , blessing to lead the traditional salt caravan. Karma rebels and takes the young Dolpopas out on the Caravan before the ritual time. Tinle, a few old men, his second son Norbou and his grandson and future chief, the young Passang, set out on their own caravan and the arduous journey across the Himalayas. An old chief’s last Stand, a young chief’s coming of age and a battle with the cruel but beautiful mountains.
