In Montreal, a famous Nicolo Bussotti violin, known as ‘the Red Violin’, is up for auction. A collector tries to establish its identity and secrets. As he does, we follow the story of the violin in flashback, starting its journey with its creation in 17th Century Italy. Its tale is one of passion, pageantry, romance and intrigue as we follow it from Italy to imperial Vienna, Victorian England and the Peoples’ Republic of China. A dramatic story that unwinds across continents and centuries accompanied by an Oscar winning score. With some subtitles.
