Alex is a 15 year old with a hermaphroditic condition, possessing both male and female genitalia. She lives as a girl but as puberty approaches her sexual identity threatens to impact on both Alex and her family. Her parents move from Argentina to a coastal enclave in Uruguay. In a effort to solve Alexʼs problems, her mother invites an old family friend Ramiro, who is a plastic surgeon, to stay. However when Alex falls for Ramiroʼs son the gap between Alex and her parents widens. XXY won two awards at Cannes and is in Spanish with English subtitles.
