Director Andrzej Wajda takes a unique dramatic examination on the tragic story of Katyn. In the spring of 1943 the advancing German army uncovered 4,400 bodies in the Katyn Forest near Smolensk. The majority of the dead were Polish officers and soldiers executed by Stalin’s secret police. Among them was Wajda’s father. Working from real life accounts and a novel by Andrzej Mularczyk, Katyn tells the story through the eyes of i the women, mothers, wives and daughters forever separated from their loved ones by the massacres. A provoking and moving return to a past that is still relevant today.
