Set during the horror of the second World War our film begins in 1939. Guido (Benigni) a childlike dreamer, comes to a Tuscany town looking to open a bookstore. There he falls in love with the beautiful Dora whom he charms by constantly popping up in unexpected places.
Director and star Robert Benigni delicately and skilfully mixes comedy and tragedy. It shows how the human spirit, using humour and imagination, can overcome anything.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes (1998) and 3 Oscars this year, including Best Actor for Robert Benigni and Best Foreign Film.
