This film has garnered significant acclaim and received numerous awards such as – Cannes Film Festival: Un Certain Regard Freedom Prize, Chicago International Film Festival: the Roger Ebert Award. It has also won the Audience choice award at the Singapore International Film festival. Recently it has won best feature film and best screenplay at the Critics Awards for Arab Films.
It is a compelling Sudanese drama exploring the lingering wounds of civil war and the complexities of reconciliation.Following the separation of South Sudan, a privileged Northern Sudanese woman, Mona, harbours deep guilt after accidentally causing the death of a Southern Sudanese man. She takes in his widow, Julia, as a maid, concealing her role in the tragedy. The film portrays the tension between two women, navigating themes of forgiveness, cultural divides, and the weight of unspoken truths.
