In a divided Berlin, angels Damiel and Cassiel roam the city unseen, listening to the thoughts and worries of mortals. Damiel, yearning for human experience, falls for trapeze artist Marion and chooses to become mortal. He discovers the beauty and pain of earthly existence, embracing the joys of touch, taste, and love, while his friend Cassiel continues to observe the human world from above. The film is a poetic meditation on life, death, and the human condition.
