Marguerite is the proud and beautiful sister of the Catholic King of France. It is August 1572. The nation is being torn apart by religious hatred and Margot is forced to marry the Protestant Duke of Navarre in an effort to reconcile her country. Six days after the wedding, her Mother, the scheming Catherine de Medici, encourages the brutal murder of thousands of Protestants in the infamous St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre. One Protestant, La Méle, badly wounded escapes and in desperation knocks on Margot’s door. She takes him in and for the first time falls in love with the enemy.
