Agnés Varda, an early member of the French New Wave of directors, takes a personal and inventive autobiographical journey through her life. Stories from her childhood in Brussels, her teenage years in occupied Paris, her life in 60s’ Los Angeles and her marriage to fellow director Jacques Demy are melded together in an enduring collage of images. These recollections are illustrated with documentary clips and fictional pieces, exposing Varda as a woman, mother, nature lover and urban artist. The eponymous beaches are a poetical re-occurring theme that guides the viewer through the different stages of her life.
